What is a Silencer Shop kiosk?
A Silencer Shop kiosk is a touchscreen station with a digital fingerprint scanner, installed at Powered by Silencer Shop dealers. It collects the fingerprints and personal details that ATF requires with an eForm 4 (to buy an NFA item) or other NFA filings, then sends them to Silencer Shop electronically. It replaced the old routine of rolling ink fingerprint cards and mailing them in.
Do I need the kiosk for a suppressor in 2026?
Possibly not. Since August 13, 2026, a federal court injunction in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF has blocked NFA registration for covered parties. Silencer Shop says suppressors and AOWs that originate from Silencer Shop and are bought in Indiana or another free state now transfer on a Form 4473 with a NICS background check, with no Form 4 and no fingerprints.
You’ll still likely use the kiosk if:
- You’re buying a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, which Silencer Shop still processes on a Form 4.
- You’re buying through a trust or corporation, which requires a Form 4.
- Your suppressor isn’t covered by the injunction.
- You live in a state that still requires the NFA process under state law.
- Your dealer has chosen to keep using the Form 4 process.

What happens at the kiosk, step by step
Silencer Shop describes the visit this way:
- Check in. Scan the QR code Silencer Shop sent you by email or text, or type in your name and email.
- Scan your fingerprints on the digital pad.
- Sign on the touchscreen.
- Answer demographic questions, such as height, weight, eye and hair color.
- Choose your registration type: individual, trust or corporation.
Silencer Shop says a first visit takes about five minutes. Once your prints are scanned, Silencer Shop keeps them on file for future submissions, so you usually don’t need to scan again.
What to bring
- A government-issued photo ID. At Condition Red Tactical, bring a valid Indiana driver’s license or ID with your current address.
- Your QR code, if you set up your Silencer Shop account ahead of time.
- Your ATF eForms account username and PIN, if your purchase will go on a Form 4.
The kiosk doesn’t take your photo
This surprises people. The kiosk handles fingerprints and your details, but not the passport-style photo required for a Form 4. Silencer Shop says you upload that photo through its mobile app or website, and it’s valid for one year.
What does the kiosk cost?
Pricing depends on the dealer. At Condition Red Tactical the kiosk is free when you buy through Silencer Shop. If your purchase is a covered 4473 suppressor sale, you may not need the kiosk at all.
Common kiosk hiccups
- Dry or worn fingertips can make prints hard to read. Washing your hands and using a little lotion beforehand can help. The kiosk will ask you to rescan if a print doesn’t take.
- Name mismatches. Use your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID and your Silencer Shop account.
- No QR code. You can still register at the kiosk by typing your information in. Having your account set up first just speeds things up.
After the kiosk: what’s next on a Form 4
- Silencer Shop prepares your eForm 4 with your prints and details.
- You review and e-sign the form, and certify it in your ATF eForms account.
- The form goes to ATF with the $0 tax stamp for suppressors, SBRs, SBSs and AOWs.
- After ATF approves, the dealer calls you to pick up the item. You’ll complete a 4473 at pickup.
