Buy a Suppressor on a 4473 in Indiana
Condition Red Tactical is a Powered by Silencer Shop dealer in Greenfield. Since the August 2026 court ruling, eligible suppressors can go home the same day with a standard background check.
What Changed
On August 5, 2026, a federal court in Texas ruled in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF that the NFA’s registration and approval rules can’t be enforced for suppressors now that Congress has cut the tax on them to $0. Indiana was one of the plaintiff states, and the order took effect August 13.
For covered buyers that means a suppressor transfers like any other firearm: fill out ATF Form 4473, pass the NICS background check, and take it home. No Form 4, no fingerprint cards, no months waiting on an eForm.
Status as of September 27, 2026: the injunction is in effect, and September news reports say the Justice Department will not appeal. Rules can still change, so we confirm eligibility on every sale.

Suppressors in Indiana
Suppressors are legal to own in Indiana, and Indiana allows hunting with a suppressor. A suppressor lowers the report and recoil, which protects your hearing and makes shooting more comfortable for new shooters. It does not make a firearm silent.

Suppressor FAQ
Can I buy a suppressor on a 4473 in Indiana?
Yes, if the purchase is covered by the August 2026 Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF injunction. Indiana is a plaintiff state, and Silencer Shop says suppressors that come through Silencer Shop, including through Powered by Silencer Shop dealers like Condition Red Tactical, can transfer on a Form 4473 with a NICS check.
Do I need to be a member of a gun rights group?
Not when you buy a suppressor that comes through Silencer Shop; Silencer Shop says its customers are covered. If you buy from another source, coverage may depend on membership in a plaintiff organization, so ask us first.
Is there still a $200 tax stamp on suppressors?
No. Congress cut the NFA tax on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and AOWs to $0 starting January 1, 2026. Machine guns and destructive devices still carry the $200 tax.
Can I buy a short-barreled rifle on a 4473?
Not through Silencer Shop right now. It still requires a Form 4 for SBRs and SBSs, even though the tax is $0.
Could this change?
Yes. It is an active legal matter. News reports in September 2026 said the Justice Department would not appeal, but the rules can still change, so we confirm eligibility on every sale.
